My second collaboration with Abdel Bari Atwan, one of the Arab world’s most influential journalists and commentators.
‘A Country of Words’ is Atwan’s memoir – the title is from the great Palestinian poet, Mahmoud Darwish.
Atwan is a great raconteur and I spent much of the research period laughing – when I wasn’t crying about the tragic circumstances of his Gaza boyhood and his lonely years at university in Cairo before he moved to London to pursue his career in newspapers.
